Beach Handball at the World Games 2022
Beach Handball is played on beach sand where players try to pass, bounce or roll a ball, to throw it to the goal of the opposite team. There are three players, and a goalie on each team on each side.
Each team consists of three defenders and one goalie at the defensive possessions. During offensive possession, three different players sub in, and the goalie has placed at an extra spot to defend the position.
To secure victory, the team has to win both halves and if there is a tie, then it is passed to a sudden death shootout. A team gains one point if any player except the goalie or specialist scores a goal. Also, teams gain two points if player goals in three ways:
• Alley-oop – If a player passes the ball to the teammates who catch and shoots it without touching the feet to the ground.
• The second is if a specialist or a goalie scores a goal, the team automatically gets two points.
• Spectacular or 360-degree shot: It is an acrobatic aerial maneuver serviced by a player, mostly spinning the body in 360-degree turns and scoring a goal.
The first Beach Handball match at the World Games 2022 will be a qualifying men’s/women’s scheduled on 11th July 2022 at Sloss Furnaces venue.
